Nah, I have a bad feeling about this. As in: the more we know about it, the less we'll like it. :)

What I'm looking for in the second movie: basically for the real story to start, finally. And for PJ not to screw it up. I loved the first movie despite all its flaws. But as the events become more complicated, the probability of errors and digressions from PJ increases. I want to enjoy second movie...

About Stone Giants scene: on my first watch I thought that it might be a metaphor for small people caught in the big events, which Thorin company definitely was. On my subsequent watches I was convinced that it was indeed the metaphor, because it comes directly after Gandalf talking about Saruman pr...

More Bilbo and dwarves in Rivendell. That is all. And basically, more Bilbo and dwarves charactering around would be good. Dul Guldur plot doesn't excite me or makes any sense so far, so I'm not looking forward for more of it. I liked Great Goblin and wouldn't mind more scenes with him, but not acti...

I'm not really talking about Thorin's character in the book. I am talking about Armitage's interpretation of that character, and the depth and emotional range in his acting. I'm really sorry Armitage hasn't worked for you - because the movie was basically about him and if you don't get into the mai...

Beyond that, if you're going to have Thorin refusing to go to Rivendell because of the elf thing, some mechanism is necessary to force his hand. Story wise that's the main reason for that whole sequence, although it also ties in Radagast bringing the Morgul-blade from Dol Guldur AND provided a link...

You could do all that, but it wouldn't really change much, IMO. Because the Bilbo-Thorin relationship, which is at the heart of the book, will still be awfully thin. IMO. But the whole point of the movie is that Bilbo-Thorin relationship does NOT START until the very end. Bilbo's arc in the first f...

So, my question is... could you possibly edit the full (three film version) to only include the bits from the actual book... or are such bits inseparable from PJ's additions? Interestingly, that's what I've been thinking about while watching the movie a second time. With Hobbit-1 it seems pretty ea...

Was I the only one who thought the Rock 'em Sock 'em Robot scene in the Misty Mountains was, frankly, ridiculous? Ridiculous and painfully long, but it's mostly blanked in my memory now. There was one second though, when we realized that the rocks dwarves hid on were parts of those stone giants who...

My first impression thoughts, before I head out to see the movie for the second time. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! And I'm very ambivalent about LotR movies, and like RotK least of all. The first hour spent with dwarves in Erebor and Bag End was an hour of bliss. Gollum riddle scene was sublime. Thorin angs...

Hello! "Hobbit" news brought me here after long wanderings. Yes, I got excited seeing Freeman cast as Bilbo, as I was lucky enough to see "Sherlock" a week before I heard these news. But then I had a disturbing thought. So Freeman has a choice now - either play an iconic f...

Re: How Ian Holm will appear in the Hobbit films

I have learned that a part has been written into the scripts for Ian Holm. Apparently older Bilbo (Bilbo-Prime) will enter a Black Rider Hole and return to the past from the future, just in time to advise younger Bilbo to take the Arkenstone, telling him to do what feels right. Then, during the cre...

What's amazing is that when they filmed the movie, in 1985, they didn't realize that that was the last year of the Cold War, and that by the time the movie would be out, Cold War would be over! Erm, that would be 1991. Nope. It was 1986, from our side of the Iron Curtain. With Gorbachev starting Pe...

I remember watching the 4th movie when I was in high school, and thinking it was so funny that they dropped a Russian in the US during the Cold War and had him wander around saying, "We are looking for the nuclear wessels" - which was all history by the time I was watching the movie.... W...

Teremia, you sum it up pretty exactly for me. I really enjoyed this film, but in function it definitely exists to get us to the point where the adventures can start . Oh yes! Adventures can start like right now! To wait for another 2 years for a sequel feels as excruciating as waiting for the next ...

Wee, I went and saw it a second time! And it went much better than the first time! Because the first time there was lots of action to absorb, explosions, people running back and forth etc. I found out I missed a lot of important character moments. For example, Kirk's realization, after mind-melting ...

I'm in love with HBO new series "Ladies No.1 Detective Agency", which just has finished its first season. It is based on popular book series with the same name, about life in Botswana, and about a woman who builds her life around her dream to help people to find justice, after breaking up ...
