Both Todd Akin (he of the "legitimate rape" comment) and Richard Mourdock ("God intended pregnancies caused by rape") have lost, to Claire McCaskill and Joe Donnelly, respectively. Both of those seats were originally considered easy wins for the GOP. Women have a way of shutting...

Another story from Romney's "relief event".: But the last-minute nature of the call for donations left some in the campaign concerned that they would end up with an empty truck. So the night before the event, campaign aides went to a local Wal-Mart and spent $5,000 on granola bars, canned ...

FWIW, my same job in Dell in Austin would probably make about $110k, or about £35-40K in the UK. Don't know if that clarifies or complicates matters. No idea. It always strikes me that in America, people could get more for their money. Americans usually have higher salaries than in the UK yet I not...

Doing my Candy Crowly instant fact-check imitation (;)), according to the Irish Times, the average income in Ireland in 2011 was €22,168. That sounds like what I was familiar with in England. Around £25k/year seemed average and once you got into the 30s and especially the 40s, you were considered t...

Errr... you're earning nearly quadruple £14,000/year and you say you're not even above average? Um, really? Are people in Ireland that much richer than in England? I can't imagine this is the case. Your salary is what most people I knew in England would consider to be excellent!

What they really mean is "Americans won't put up with bearing the brunt of incompetent executive decision making for fifteen dollars a day." It's not just that foreign labor is cheap, it's that it's effectively coerced through deprivation and desperation. Bingo. Americans want silly right...

Seriously, cannot Apple afford to employ some manufacturers in this country? There was an article written that I'm pretty sure we talked about here that answers your questions quite well: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/22/business/apple-america-and-a-squeezed-middle-class.html?pagewanted=all&_r...

I didn't see it but that doesn't sound like drastically different interpretations to me. It sounds like Bidan was rude/smug/condescending towards Ryan but some wanted him to be rude/smug/condescending because of how they feel about Ryan/Romney. Perhaps for some. I'm just glad he didn't sit there an...

It's funny how drastically different people interpret Biden's actions: Biden was rude or smug yet other's really appreciated his actions of laughing. To me it was expressing how absurd Ryan is... a way of responding with "Can you believe this guy? Do you hear the things that are coming out of h...

Strange, Nick demanded to go to the ER not long after he arrived in the US which meant he had no insurance (turned out to be a panic attack, which was quite obvious ) and a few hours later we were given a $1200 bill that no one paid for us...

So now people are blaming him for the deliberate actions of his opponents? Of course they do. We've seen it in this very thread. And as to why Obama hasn't connected with more people, well yovargas and River are both correct, but we can also add good ol' fashioned racism and prejudice to the mix (a...

(and again, I am talking about the attempts to emotionally manipulate people, which I so very much see in both sides). Oh sure I can acknowledge that is going on on both sides for sure. But I honestly do think one "side" is a lot more truthful than the other. You can still use facts to ge...

I don't suggest that anyone change their ideals based on one debate, but to go into an election with a closed mind is why we are where we are. Divisive, biased, partisan, politics is why we are failing. I don't completely agree. There are many important issues where you really cannot be open minded...
