Re: The challenges ahead (Biden's America)

I noticed something interesting about the way the jobs report got reported yesterday. In the morning, there was much doom and gloom about the disappointing number of jobs added. In the evening, NPR at least was offering a more nuanced take. Yes, the jobs added was low...but the unemployment number a...

Re: Gun Control Debate

Day of the shooting the kid was caught searching the internet for ammo on a school computer and then drawing pictures of people getting shot. His parents were notified both times. For some reason, they didn't take him home and the school did not send him home. Then he opened fire. Looks to me like e...

Re: Will Roe v Wade be overturned? How do you feel about that?

I admit I didn't pay much attention to the Udall/Gardner campaign. I read later that Udall did a bad job which is why we ended up with Gardner...who we booted six years later. My vote for Udall was pretty much a lock for a lot of reasons, but the biggest one was this: Gardner was the CO-4 House Rep ...

Re: The challenges ahead (Biden's America)

It's impressive. It probably won't persuade anyone hellbent on twisting the tragedy into something they can use in the acquisition of power, fame, and/or money, but it's nice to see the WI Senate delegation standing up for their constituents.

Re: The Rittenhouse and McMichael/Bryan trials

To me, the prosecutor who moved to protect the McMichael's facing charges for what amounts to dereliction of duty is an even bigger deal than the trial results. How often do you see something like that happen? Also, if Johnson's facing charges for her role in trying to keep a lid on the case, should...

Is there any way to vindicate Trump for anything without overlooking damning material? The man leaves ooze on everything he touches.

Rittenhouse is too young to qualify as a VP. Or even a House rep.

Re: The Russia Investigations and other Trump-related cases

The Republican National Committee is paying Donald Trump's personal legal bills relating to investigations by the state of New York into Trump's finances. That's per the Washington Post . And why? "He's a leader of our party," said an RNC spokesperson. The relationship Trump has with the ...

Re: The challenges ahead (Biden's America)

It's a weird disconnect. When you ask people how they feel about their personal finances, they feel good, but when asked about the nation as a whole, it's a very different story.

Re: The challenges ahead (Biden's America)

No, but Trump had the best genes and best body ever and didn't really need a doctor ever. Or something.

Biden's not doing bad for 78. Hiatal hernias show up in my family on occasion. My cousin had to have surgery for one.

Re: The Rittenhouse and McMichael/Bryan trials

I'm not sure this is going to end well for Rittenhouse. He's 17, he's become a household name for crossing state lines with an AR-15 and using that AR-15 to shoot people, and it'll be a long time before he and his family have any privacy again. That's a lot for an adult, never mind a kid. His family...

Re: 2022 U.S. Congressional Elections

Also today, Trump said this in a radio interview: "Israel literally owned Congress, you understand that, ten years ago, fifteen years ago, and it was so powerful, and today it's almost the opposite: you have, between AOC and Omar, these people that hate Israel, they hate Israel with a passion,...

N.E. Brigand wrote: Fri Sep 24, 2021 6:29 pm Mitch McConnell today suggested that if Republicans retake the Senate in 2022 and there is subsequently a vacancy in the Supreme Court, they will leave the seat vacant rather than vote on Joe Biden's nominee to fill it.
Since when was McConnell ever interested in that part of his job?

Re: 2022 U.S. Congressional Elections

Ohio's redistricting commission is nominally bipartisan but actually controlled by Republicans. They've issued their new maps. The maps maintain Republican super-majority control. Why? Because, the Republicans say, they won 13 of the past 16 statewide elections, and that's 81%. This sounds like a f...

Re: Not enough Whisky for this Tango Foxtrot

So so light WTF. Might be more "mildly interesting". Colorado gained a Congressional district. We also passed an anti-gerrymandering amendment to our state constitution, which has caused some frustration in our Dem-controlled statehouse but, as one of the people who voted for the amendment...
