Re: Lord of the Rings series!?
All good points... but I was reacting to the article which suggested Morgan Freeman as Gandalf, Idris Elba as Aragorn and the Korean guy from the Fast and Furious movies as Legolas. That's just going too far since it would require remodeling Middle-earth too much, at which point it ceases to be Midd...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?
I'm a just leave this here. How Would You Cast the Lord of the Rings for Television? (There are some excellent ideas in there, including the overarching one of thinking outside the gender and color boxes.) If representation of female and non-white people was a concern for a reboot, better to (subtl...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?
With the news of this, the biopic and those Shadow of X video games, there seems to be a new push for "Middle-earth the brand" over the last few years. Perhaps it will be for the best in terms of getting some new blood in the fandom, and in forum sites. They're all on social media now. Chr...

Idle thoughts on LOTR for TV
The recent news got me thinking. I probably don't have it in me to attempt a whole script for all of it, and Tosh did a great job already, so these are just some scattered thoughts if there were to be a reboot. This assumes it will be 100% Estate approved and they can reference everything. Also I ad...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?
Eh, I don't think this will go anywhere. Besides, if it is a remake, it's too soon and only people like us would care. The well has been poisoned with the trend for more cynical shows. The actors and music aren't irreplaceable, but the films got Lee and Howe so the visuals will have to be radically ...

Oh it's been that long. Well I haven't watched them in a long time. Skipped the Hobbit ones too. I don't really think about them anymore. Time heals all wounds? Besides, the new Star Wars sequel, which disappointed me so much, put Jackson and company's jolly changes in perspective. Make Denethor a c...

Of course we appreciate his work, it was just a figure of speech. I mean, we are lucky to have him.
The thread I linked to is a what-if scenario, that instead of literary archaeology he'd gone the way of Brian Herbert.

Re: A New Harry Potter Trilogy?
This trilogy's going to have to explain why the protagonist is absent during the Potter films, when he could have helped (if he's not invalid or dead). Like how the Force ghost of Anakin/Vader was inexplicably absent from The Force Awakens.

Like the villain in a much superior film said, this was http://i.imgur.com/v1F1hk3.png Even the score was. I can't remember a single piece of new Star Wars music, and they used to stick with me after only one viewing. Mad Max: Fury Road and The Peanuts Movie were far better cinematic revivals of old...

Re: Miniseries adaptation of Cornwell's The Last Kingdom
Pretty good. They condensed Uhtred's childhood and adolescence among the Danes too much so his loyalty and identity conflicts never feel quite right. Due to budget restraints, the battles are all kind of small or cut short except for two big ones. The costumes, weapons armor don't look right (square...

He's not tempted by the light, he just says he is. Concerning Luke's failure to relaunch the Jedi order: To me it seems logical to a certain degree. He had to this ALONE. He was trained only late in his life ( in comparison to traditional Jedi training) and only a short time (still in comparison to ...

Re: A New Harry Potter Trilogy?
Today I learned something new, thank you. This was never taught in English class, probably because we didn't take up typing on typewriters. (Also, I finally found a copy of The Hidden Worlds. :) ) Besides, there's not much to talk about regarding the movie, but there is this: http://www.ew.com/artic...

And wasn't that force-frozen blaster bolt kind of cool? Eeeh. All Vader could do when shot was to let the bolts bounce off his glove with a Force... field :P (if it wasn't just armored). The Emperor himself couldn't do such a thing. It is sort of unsettling that the most powerful Force user in hist...

Re: New Star Wars films from Disney: SPOILERS WELCOME
Failed, or incomplete (for story reasons)? I can get that they purposely gave an incomplete picture for trilogy reasons, but the dealbreaker for me is his claiming to be conflicted, but not really doing any good things to back it up. The mind trick with the restraints reminded me of Dune (remove my...
