I found it to be an excellent overview of the thematic/stylistic changes the legendarium went through. I also have but not read the Flieger essay book. That will be next either before or after Voronwë's book.

I wonder if the issue isn't really the quantitative changes so much as the qualitative changes. Word counts might help but I think what Voronwë was trying to get at was that the changes CT made to the female characters appear to diminish their importance on a qualitative level.
