Re: Russia's Invasion of Ukraine

Russia attacked Odesa with cluster munitions yesterday. They targeted a city park, killing people who were out walking their dogs (killing dogs, too) or just enjoying a spring day on the park benches.

They weren't exactly right with him, either. Except that one year.

Re: Dune

I've been wondering whether the use of the word Sietch in Dune was an intentional reference to Ukrainian history, and apparently it is.

Is "the staff" going to testify?

I have not considered this.

Not that I was serious about my conspiracy theory, but Ukraine hit another refinery in Russia today, so I guess my theory was wrong.

Last time I agreed to be polled, they asked how favorably I felt toward Arnold Schwarzenegger running for governor in California. I was laughing so hard, I barely managed to hang up on those pranksters.

Little did I know.

Re: Russia's Invasion of Ukraine

Russia is very unhappy with Johnson. https://twitter.com/BBCSteveR/status/1782661449401463080?s=19 I have a conspiracy theory that I absolutely can't back up by any evidence. It involves: 1. Johnson agreeing to support the aid package in exchange for promise of support from the Democrats in case of ...

Re: What are you reading?

Sometimes when my libraries have a very long wait on something, they get more copies of it. These days, I only buy books if I know I want to reread them, or if I like the author and want to support them. For the rest, Libby is my source. Eta: the audiobook for the prequel is 39 hours? 39? Now the co...

Re: What are you reading?

Oh, that looks interesting! And it's popular, the shortest wait at my libraries is 6 weeks. I finished Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher. It's of the "retelling of a fairy tale with a twist" genre. It's a good Kingfisher, with less focus on romance than the paladin books. She does like her heroe...

That sounds like a mafia shakedown. Is that normal for a political campaign?

And what does JFC mean? In this context.

And it's often pointed out that in the real world, the characters of Friends wouldn't be able to afford their lifestyle even with roommates. And I think successful young people are underrepresented on social media like Twitter, because they are busy having a life in the real world. I don't mean a cr...
