My dad was stationed in Germany for several years. I was quite young when we lived there but I do have fond memories of Bremerhaven and Germany in general. My parents used to take us on rides in the country every Sunday and we also visited Belgium and The Netherlands. I'd love to go back someday. I ...

Too bad Zidane had to go out on such an unpleasant note. I wasn't as emotionally invested in the final so I really didn't care who won but it was nice to see that Italy seemed to really appreciate their accomplishment. I was much more excited about the Germany/Portugal match. I was glad that Germany...

It's just that the cancellation is inexplicable to me, given the quality of the series. I felt that way at the time they cancelled the show. It was one of the few series we watched as a family. The only other series' we all sit and watch together are "Nero Wolfe" in reruns and, more recen...

California Poppies are ubiquitous along the roadsides this time of year. There are other flowers, lupine, wild heliptrope, desert bells, wild mustard, as well as the Spanish broom that is just starting to bloom. Our falls are nothing special but our springs are glorious. http://static.flickr.com/54/...

The city hall in Ventura is built in a neoclassical style. I don't like photographing buildings in general, but I did like the way the white marble looked against the blue sky on the day I took this.

We have a biography in my library called Catch a Fire: The Life of Bob Marley by Timothy White. I haven't had the opportunity to read it because it gets checked out all the time. I think it's a testament to his life that people are still being touched by his message.

Er, I think there was a temporary shortage at the time. You are more than welcome to one now, though! We're desperately trying to get rid...er, I mean, we would really love to offer you one now! ;) :blackeye: Ummm, Hobby, I think I've got quite enough potholders to last me through the next major ea...

I decided that the bees needed some equal time with the butterflies so here is today's contribution:

The bee was going from one thistle to another and was almost completely covered in pollen.

Thanks for the info about the black drape, ateelah! LOL, I first thought it was a dead butterfly - awesome that it stayed on your hand for long enough to take a pic! Love the one where it has its wings spread. The name is exactly the same as in German (translated, that is), btw. And butterflies hat...

Alys! It's good to see you here!

Welcome Estel!

Apparently, I joined in the pre-potholder days and was, therefore, not placed in a position of having to accept or decline.

I thought of another one:

Bridge of Sighs by Robin Trower

I remember listening to it late at night on a road trip and it just gave me chills.

I almost feel bad following behind that gorgeous butterfly with just some ol' flower pics... Cem, don't ever feel bad about posting flowers! They're lovely, especially that iris! Today I am posting a closeup of the lupine growing in profusion around our county. There are so many color variations th...

Thank you, Sassy & V! I was happy the picture turned out so well! You never know when your subject is going to take off! The butterfly in my hand is called a Mourning Cloak. They are quite beautiful even with their wings closed. My daughter raised one from a caterpillar and the following is a sh...

Hobby, I used a black drape for the picture of the camellia and the onion. It makes the subject pop out a little better than trying to get rid of the background. You've posted some lovely flower shots yourself! I miss lilacs! We don't get them here, I don't think it gets cold enough. Thank you for p...

Ah! I'm glad I asked, it's a beautiful cat. I think they have clouded leopards at the Santa Barbara Zoo. I'm going to have to get up there one of these days!

V, is that an ocelot? Very pretty cat! Yov, his work is really transcendent. If I could afford to go (time & money wise) to the exhibit, I would. It runs until May 14 so I still may have an opportunity to see it. A blossom fallen from my camellia bush, which has been extraordinarily happy with t...

Thank you, Eru & Prim!

Not morning glories but here's a picture I took in my front yard after the rains.

I like the way the water beaded up on the rose leaves.
