It would hardly be a party without lutefisk, tinwë. I am so glad you appreciate that undeniable fact.

Some people have such silly prejudices about how their food looks.

Well, and smells.

And tastes.
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

Oh. We can't break with tradition.

Absolutely, we must have lutefisk!

I insist.

Prim must dust off the hazmat suit, pull the suitably-long tongs from storage, invoke the correct incantations and prepare to do battle.

Meanwhile, there's the annual sacrifice to consider.

:D :D :D

Well, at least lutefisk is good if a food fight breaks out... =:)

Look to our coming at 5:00 p.m. EST today. At that time, look to the thread.

That's the nice thing about cyber-food, Rowan. It is inexhaustible. I hope we'll be partying throughout the weekend.

Lutefisk: (from wiki)
The issue of how lutefisk first was created is as controversial as the fish itself. Some stories tell about fish accidentally dropped in a washing bowl containing lye, and because of poverty the fish had to be eaten nevertheless. Yet other stories tell about fires of various kinds, because ashes of wood combined with water will create lye. A possible scenario is that drying racks for stockfish caught fire, followed by days of rain, and again, because of poverty, the fish still had to be picked from the ashes, cleaned, prepared and eaten.
I hope it has been made the latter way.

Party? <carefully adjusts curl of ostrich feathers on stunning hat>

Now why would anyone think there was going to be a party?

<removes speck of dust from dainty dancing-slippers>

Just—pay no attention to the people banging crockery around next door.

I am sure that, in fourteen minutes or so, all will be revealed.

It opens in just a very few minutes. . . .

<dashes off in panic>

This made me think of this song:

For the benefit of Mr. Kite
There will be a show tonight on trampoline
The Hendersons will all be there
Late of Pablo Fanques Fair - what a scene!
Over man and horses hoops and garters
Lastly through a hogshead of real fire!
In this way Mr. K. will challenge the world!

The celebrated Mr. K.
performs his feat on Saturday at Bishopsgate
The Hendersons will dance and sing
As Mr. Kite flies through the ring - don't be late!
Messrs. K. and H. assure the public
Their production will be second to none
And of course Henry The Horse dances the waltz!

The band begins at ten to six
When Mr. K. performs his tricks without a sound
And Mr. H. will demonstrate
Ten summersets he'll undertake on solid ground
We've been some days in preparation
A splendid time is guaranteed for all
And tonight Mr. Kite is topping the bill

Happy birthday, HoF!
