Nature Pics
Re: Nature Pics
V, I saw that your area had some wildfires start from the lightning. Were they able to stop them?
In over 20 years since we've bought this house, I don't ever remember it being warm and humid. Usually, we get dry heat from inland.

If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

Re: Nature Pics
There aren't any fires near us right now though there is smoke from a fire that was burning at the summit, and there is 30 acre fire in Davenport about 10 miles up Hwy 1 from Santa Cruz that is about 25% contained. Nothing too serious yet. But power was out for an hour yesterday, and from about 2:30 this morning until about 4:30 this afternoon, and we are expected more dry lightning storm tonight (though the current radar makes it seem like it might give us a miss).

Again, stunning!
It's too bad that the lightening creates such havoc/fires. Stay safe!

I'm worried about my parents. It's over 100F where they are. If power goes out and their AC is down, we'll have a situation.

Hey Rose, I'm about ready to upload my music video. In the credits, I'm thinking of writing "Photos taken in Arizona by Rose". Or do you want me to use your offline name?

Re: Nature Pics
I stopped on my way to work to give thanks for living in such a beautiful place, with such a beautiful community. Much thanks to all who have helped protect it, and much love and strength to all who have lost and are grieving.

This isn't strictly nature, but it is a lovely fall scene I saw this afternoon. Too bad the power lines run in front of that lovely home.

I love those fall colours! All you need is someone to photoshop the wires out of the picture!

I love dramatic skies! We had dramatic clouds yesterday. Today we had off & on showers with a likely frost tonight. With the rain came rainbows. The photo doesn't do them justice. They were intense.

Re: Nature Pics
We got out for a hike!! So good for the soul. Then we stopped for frozen custard and for curbside Italian beef (& a Chicago-style deep dish for tomorrow). What a lovely day. It's going to get cold after tomorrow.
We live in a geological area called the Kettle Moraine. Moraines are created from glacial lobes which leave vast amounts of glacial deposits, gravel, rock, etc.. as they retreat. It's the reason many of the barns and homes in the area have field stone foundations. There are small depressions called kettles which are formed when the glacier calves as it retreats and the ice gets covered with debris and it eventually melts. They are often filled with water (there is a photo of one in the album). The glaciers also carve out lakes, and there are drumlins, and kames as well. It makes for a rocky, rolling landscape.
