So, as if an English language semi-opera about the French revolution wan't enough, how about a Hip-hop/rap infused musical about one of the USA's founding fathers?
I am of course talking about Hamilton. My latest addiction. Some of you may have seen the opening number on the Grammy's a couple of weeks ago:

I'm going to see Hamilton in December! It's our birthday-Christmas-graduation present to the twins, and I get to tag along!

I am taking my wife to see this on Broadway in July. We've never done anything like this before and I'm afraid I had to spend an imprudent amount of money to make it happen, but that was rather the point--we've been buried under babies for the last seven years, and it's high time we did something special just for us. And I've been repeatedly assured I won't regret it.
Hip Hop isn't my thing, but I love drama and musical theater and I expect I'll come around.

I'll do my best to report on it here, but I'm afraid I don't have the technical awareness or vocabulary to do it properly.
The decision I'm trying to make now is whether and how much I should listen to the soundtrack before going. B has been... highly enthusiastic about the production for a couple of months and keeps saying she catches something new each time she listens, but there's something to be said for the fresh experience too.

I would suggest listening a few times, the rap makes it hard to catch first time out.

That's a good point. I miss words in ordinary conversation as it is; throw in music and put the speaker far enough away that I can't see his face, and I won't have a chance if I don't already have some idea what's going on.
