Love the little reading fellow! :D

Hi, Tigg! Hi, Semprini! And I see you, Melly—welcome!

Jn, it's not an abuse of power to steal those smiley URLs—anyone can see them by hitting "quote" on the relevant post. Then I—er, they just copy them to a list. :)

So, give in to your larcenous impulses.
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

Whups! I missed Eärendil—sorry! Welcome! And welcome to everyone since the last time I came in here—it's been a while. . . .

How wonderful to "see" everyone. :)

Folks, it occurred to me some time ago to start threads on Tolkien's characters. I started one on Gimli but it just ran out of steam.

From my opening spiel:
I’ve been looking through old threads, and I see that we have had plenty to say about Tolkien’s primary characters, like Frodo and Sam, and beloved secondary characters like Faramir. We even have a pretty good thread about Farmer Maggot, pulling together all we know about him, with our general comments on his role in the tale.

But there are some weird gaps. I can’t find any threads about a character as important as Aragorn, although there has been discussion about aspects of him, such as his foresight in warning Gandalf about Moria.

Anyway, I thought it might be nice to have threads about all the characters in LOTR with substantial roles. I don’t envisage these being incredibly scholarly, with quotes from HOME, or anything. Just general discussion.
Would this idea find favour with the present group?

I couldn't deliver monster posts - those days are over - or update every day, but if others like the idea I could start the ball rolling.....

(Edit: here is the thread: http://forums.theonering.com/viewtopic.php?t=86892)

Queen B, to quote Sam, 'I does ask. And if that isn't nice enough. I begs.'

Drogo, you don't... you mean, you don't know...

Fancy not knowing the Magpie - well, watch her in a discussion and you'll find out why that line about the hounds in her sig was justified! :D

She's a lovely girl, though!

Btw, I thought you'd mean MagpieJen because she's "class of 2000", too, isn't she? :)

Hi QueenB - get you to the Shibboleth Forum with that subject! :D

Welcome to our newest member, IE! :gladhug:

Hope you weren't standing there too long. I have to remember to check the user list first thing instead of rushing to the threads!

Not at all, not at all. Thank you both for the very warm welcome. I expect I'll do a lot more listening than talking here but Bilbo says this place is good for both :)

Oh - Yov is here too? Hello Yov! :gladhug:

Get Mrs. Whistler out here with the potholders! (that smiley looks like it's wearing Mrs. Whistler's potholders, doesn't it?)
