Via my daughter, in an email with the subject line "Just do it":
1. Go to Google Maps - Get Directions.
2. Select "Walking Directions."
3. For your current location, write The Shire, and for your destination write Mordor.
4. Hit "Go."
Google is awesome.
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

Or those cool little window pieces.
We have a few gallons of highly specialized Lego bits saved up in the garage. It represents quite an investment by us and our parents over years of birthdays and Christmases, and I want to amortize it over my own grandkids.

I just get the usual "Use caution – This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths."Voronwë the Faithful wrote:yov, don't look at the directions. Look above the directions (right under where it says "Walking directions are in beta."
And it found some route in Manhattan....

Well, that makes sense. Remember, Gandalf corrected Radagast on that very point!Inanna wrote:Thanks, V. I got it. You have to write "The Shire", not just "Shire".

My trip was entirely within Eugene, IIRC; we have some Tolkien-based street and business names.
