I know Pearly Di and Jewelsong have been posting videos on FB to celebrate Christmas. I thought maybe we could do that here, too. I came across this video today.

Love the Carol of the Bells, Di - we play an arrangement of that in one of the Christmas medleys arranged for concert band and I always wondered what the words were!

This particular arrangement also contains O Come , C Come Emmanuel (with the horns having the tune!) and this favourite of mine, the Austrian carol "Still, Still, Still", sung here by Aled Jones in an English translation, as part of the BBC Songs of Praise Nativity special from a few years ago...

"O Holy Night" is still my favourite, but I can't imagine anyone here needs a link!

Oh, and I've linked David Bowie and Bing Crosbies "Peace on Earth" often enough already.

And the Pogues with Kirsty McColl's "Fairytale of New York".

If anyone wants links I can provide! :)

Two more favourite carols:

'See amid the winter's snow'.
I do realise that it is very unlikely that Jesus was actually born in the winter. :blackeye: But this is a lovely, uplifting carol. Sung here by the incomparable choir of King's.

The Angel Gabriel from Heaven Came (old Basque carol)
Loooovely rendition by the All Angels a capella group.

I am loving these.

Here's a secret...if you go here: http://www.listentoyoutube.com/index.php
you can convert almost any youtube into an MP3 that you can load on your iPod or other device.

Just follow the instructions...and don't be fooled into clicking on an ad. Click the SMALL links, not the big ones.

I was reminded of a "carol" that we used to sing in High school, because it was a grat favourite of the Deputy Headmistress...we used to sing this gustily, accompanied by the school orchestra and I grew to love it very much. Later on, when I acquired a copy of the sheet music, I realized that it was actually written for solo voice.

I hunted on Youtube for it, and have only been able to find a couple of very old recordings by tenors or basses, and one soprano! Perhaps you will be able to imagine a hall full of children and parents sing this at a school carol service, anyway!

I only discovered this last year, but it's been around for a few years. Easily my favorite version of two of my favorite carols.

The BNL one was originally recorded backstage of a concert... the drummer used a suitcase.

To me that makes it seem all the more powerful.

(t's tempered a bit on their Christmas album being followed immediately by Rudolph  )

This is just adorable.

Gorgeous kids from New Zealand present the Nativity! Hilarious, heart-warming and canon. :)

If this doesn't put a big smile on your face ... :)
