Minneapolis Bridge Collapse

Post by Voronwë the Faithful »

I'm sure that everyone has heard of the horrific collapse of the eight-lane Interstate 35W bridge in Minneapolis yesterday during rush hour, in which apparently dozens of vehicles plunged into the Mississippi River. What a horrendous tragedy! My heart goes out to all of the victims, and their families, and particularly to those who still do not know the fate of their loved ones.

Note: Please use this thread for expressions of sadness, condolences, etc. If anyone wishes to discuss the important subject of how this could have happened, or related subjects, please start a separate thread in Lasto Beth Lammen.
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

It's just horrifying. The sheer randomness of it. At least there was some grace in that the school-bus-load of children escaped alive and mostly unhurt. But my heart is with those who are still waiting for news that by now can only be bad. :(
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”
