Animals in ME

It is said that all plants were put to earth between 0-1500 VY by Yavana. Then the two lamps were lit up in 1500 VY and everything start to grow and in what they called The Spring of Arda.

But what about animals? Did they appear in 1500 VY? If they appear before, how they were feeding themselves? Is it in The Spring period that they appear?

And what exactly did Oromë was hunting before the Spring of Arda?

Another point...

What was Nahar, the Horse of Oromë? A Maïar? Or something else like an even lesser spirit than the Maïar but still a spirit?

Is he the ancestors of all Horses?

Were the horses made to it's image?

It is state that Felaróf was descent from Nahar? What about that? Did Nahar mate with regular horses?

I'm questioning myself.
