What's interesting is that on the libertarian/authoritarian scale, Lali and I (I think, skimming through everyone's scores) have the closest numbers to each other. I wonder whether we overlapped on a bunch of issues (that maybe we haven't gotten around to discussing on this board yet :D) or had different areas where we are less unabashedly to the left than our comrades V and T. :D
I won't just survive
Oh, you will see me thrive
Can't write my story
I'm beyond the archetype
I won't just conform
No matter how you shake my core
'Cause my roots, they run deep, oh

When, when the fire's at my feet again
And the vultures all start circling
They're whispering, "You're out of time,"
But still I rise
This is no mistake, no accident
When you think the final nail is in, think again
Don't be surprised, I will still rise

“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

I think Griffy is closer (? too lazy to scroll back and double check), but we are close to each other. :) It does make me wonder where we overlapped.

Yeah, but I'm still the pinko-est.

Not surprising for someone who advocates for the abolishment of money!

My crowd graph:
http://www.politicalcompass.org/charts/ ... v%20style=

Looks like I'm on the same wavelength as Nelson Mandela, Alexis Tsipras, the Dalai Lama, Jill Stern, Stewart Alexander, and Ghandi.

I'm far, far away from Mitt Romney, who is not so far away from Barack Obama (whose re-election I applaud), Binny Netanyahu, and Julia Gillard (for whom I voted!)

I guess it could be worse? Gosh, I'm quite a pinko!

I was surprised by that so I took it again.

Economic Left/Right: -1.00

Meh. I guess it is somewhat accurate.

I rarely chose "strongly" as an option. I thought some of the questions made flawed assumptions.

I went back and took it a third time, but this time (while the answers were the same) I answered "strongly" in a few instances.

Economic Left/Right: -3.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.46

I think "strongly" is weighted too heavily.

I'm surprised the two presidential candidates were so close: Obama (7.5, 6) and Romney (8.5, 7.5), and so far from me.

It would be interesting to see where the"average citizen" of various countries lies. Or perhaps a scatter diagram showing where the majority of voters lie.

I seriously doubt that President Obama and Mr. Romney would actually be that close if they actually took the test.

I would be interested in dissecting the questions on that survey for discussion.

I stopped at second. They need to define "supporting your country" for it to have any meaning. Presumably, they mean "your government", which is certainly not the only way to support a democratic country when you disagree with its course.

Like Voronwë, I don't put too much store into these sorts of things. This test, in particular, obviously gives away the author's own ideological leanings - globalisation should serve the interests of people rather than multi-national companies? Obviously anyone who disagreed with that would not see it as an either-or. And Barack Obama is in the authoritarian right? Goes to show why it is so difficult to get out of the libertarian left quadrant (and the alternative is 'authoritarian', really?). In my experience, differences in ideological viewpoint come out not through the answers people give, but the questions that they ask in the first place.

I did get the sense that the scaling, given the questions, should not be linear. The questions were designed in such a way as to lump most of the leaders of modern governments over in the upper right, thus sending the message that there's not much distance between them. Well, there's not much distance between here and the nearest star, either, if you use the whole galaxy as your context.
