Dividing people is a very old tactic used by those who wish to seize or keep power. A divide people are less likely to mass and rail against bad leadership.

I never thought of the left-right divide I see from that angle, Nenochtoo, - as in, it being deliberately seeded - but maybe there are groups that stand to benefit. Media companies?

Not sure what halplm is driving at with his reference to racist violent types? To me, people beating people are news and should be treated equally in terms of news coverage. No extra hype if it is white racists beating blacks, no extra hype if it is whites beating blacks. No lesser helping of hype if it is white people beating white people. Etc.

I was referring to the unfounded accusations of violence and racism against people protesting at tea parties.

Here we have actual violence, and at the protest far more bad language and such being used towards republicans... and the media doesn't even share so much as a peep. This happened four days ago, and there's nothing...

Oh no doubt media companies profit much. Here in this land, as far as television news goes there are the local stations that are not that all bias and there are the BIG CABLE NEWS 3 - CNN, MSNBC and the ever prudent, always highly entertaining line up at FOX. But in all three I've never seen so many nose jobs and other cosmetic surgery enhanced mugs spouting out their 'Entertainment Tonite' Formats and propaganda that rivals anything from the Cold War Era or before. So much brain mush, more commercials than actual news.

They tend to divide instead of inform.

I would feel more inclined to trust that story if they had something other than an anonymous source making such an outrageous allegation (or I should say, allegation of such outrageous conduct). I don't see how any politician in this age of the internet could think they could get away with something like that.
