True enough.
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

They say the surest way for a reporter to make someone look like an idiot is to interview him in person and then print his words verbatim, and that effect is on display here. How do professional interviewers handle this? Is it customary to tweak the text to make it more print-friendly?

That's very odd, as some of the early reviewers stated that the rams had been removed...
Did some people perhaps seen an unfinished cut?

Now you've got me doubting myself.Passdagas the Brown wrote:That's very odd, as some of the early reviewers stated that the rams had been removed...

I could've sworn I saw them, unless somehow my memory is conflating the movie with the TV spots.
What's definitely in are mountain goats.

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
I think the answer is that what was reported was that the scene that we saw in the trailer with the dwarves of the Iron Hills charging on battle rams is out, but this scene of these few dwarves (who are they, can anyone tell?) is in. I seem to recall someone saying something like that.

And I remember some reviewer referencing goats the dwarves produce out of nowhere, which would be consistent with the idea that their main introduction was cut, but that some later piece remains.

Yes, they do just suddenly show up. My recollection is that I assumed they arrived with Dain's troops.

A bunch of TV spots, with quite a bit of footage that I haven't seen before (even Beorn):

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
WB has just put out another trailer, this one tying together all 3 Hobbit films into one. It feels very much like a trailer for one single movie, and it's absolutely fantastic:

That's pretty cool. Is it an internet-only release just for the fans? Because it seems too long for either a preview or TV. It also doesn't follow the excitement-building ethos that most trailers go with.

I like it. Maybe the three will play better as one long, continuous film...

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
There probably is a good single-film fan edit in there. But to do that properly would likely require addition as well as subtraction.

Indeed. No huggy wuggy between Bilbo and Thorin at the end of AUJ, for starters.

Me too. Sure doesn't look like she is just a 'damsel in distress' in this film, as some have claimed.

Agree. We hear and hear so many things and reactions by various folks and i really do not pay much attention either is positive or negative and for a good reason i guess. Really, with this Trilogy the ultimate, best and most accurate judge will be ourselves alone.

Colbert interviews Smaug:

My favorite part:
Colbert: Actually, Professor Tolkien said that.
Smaug: Who?
