Question Re. LOTR

Post by Sunsilver »

I did not venture into the Movies forum on TORC very often, so I never managed to find out why Christoper Lee had a major falling out with P.J.

The TORC search function sucks SO BADLY that I just don't have the time to do a search there to find out.

Can someone bring me up to speed on this?
When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes The Rose.

From memory, I would say that it was because The Voice of Saruman was cut from the theatrical version of ROTK.

Or is this a more recent spat to do with The Hobbit? If so, I wasn't even aware of it.

(Gosh, how did I know Jude would be the one to answer this...LOL!)

Jude, read the topic title again for the answer to your question... :D

What specifically was 'The Voice of Saruman'? I don' recall that scene.

Some people SPECULATED that something had happened between the two based on the fact that Lee's scenes and his credit were cut from the theatrical release of King, but there was never any hard information to that effect that I recall. And of course he was back in the EE, and Jackson went to great lengths to accommodate him for Hobbit.

So, no hard facts? Surely SOMEONE has asked Lee about this! What did he say?

I actually read an interview with Lee about this - he was quite ticked off and refused to attend the ROTK première. "What would be the point?" were his words.

Here's another comment from an interview:

He told Total Film magazine: "My point was not that, as an actor, I'd had my scenes taken out. It was the story. You can't have a man looking frantic on a balcony when everything is being destroyed and then never see him again.

"The audience would demand, as they did, to know what happened to him. I just didn't understand it. I was given plenty of reasons why I was cut out, none of which made sense."
