Great news, Tom! I was opening that it would come to the Bay Area. I will definitely look into trying to make it, so maybe we can hook up!

You can tell us about it in September!
You can tell us about it in September!
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

Wasn't the LOTR Exhibition there not too long away? I dare say that must have been very cool!cemthinae wrote:Once again Indiana seems soooooo far away from all things cool.
I wish!!
I do love the DVD that came with RotK, but it's only snippets.
Maybe TTBK would know of a recording of the LotR Symphony.
I'd love to see the whole thing on DVD, with the option to either watch the Orchestra or the Overheads, or a mixture of both.
Saw it in the Albert Hall. Wonderful.

There's no recording of it yet.
Last I heard, there's no definite plan, but they do want to release it at some point. It would probably have to be sometime after the complete scores are all out. (Christmas...next year) Possibly in conjunction with the book "The Music of The Lord of the Rings".
DVD would definitely be the way to release it; and I'd buy it in a heartbeat...

There'll probably be some Mid-west performances again next fall.Once again Indiana seems soooooo far away from all things cool.

Wish someone would come over to see it with me in Cologne.
Not sure if I'm going yet, though. (About time I decided, huh? Not even sure if there are still tickets - I'm so slow. There was an add in the paper ages ago saying they were looking for singers, and I vaguely thought I could think about that, although they were mainly looking for young girls - then I put the paper aside and only remembered the whole thing again when a friend asked me three days ago if I was going. )

but being a cheerful hobbit he had not needed hope, as long as despair could be postponed.

I don't know if I would have had that opportunity - the ad said they are looking for "young female singers" though others might try applying, too.
And contrary to appearances, the epithet "young" in popular usage doesn't really describe me.
I had meant to ask, but like I said, I forgot - not that I didn't bother.
I was wondering what choir there is in the first place - don't remember any choir from the soundtrack.
But indeed I could kick myself now.
Not that I'm not busy singing almost every day just now for a concert next week. So, maybe I wouldn't have had time for the rehearsals anyway - the ad also said taking part in the rehearsals was obligatory.
Edit: ok, I just clicked the link in Tom's first post, and also had a look at the event in Cologne, on the choir's homepage and on the event-host's page.
I used to think Howard Shore was conducting this himself, but I find that both in Cologne and in SF it's the same German guy who conducts the performance.
Also, the cheapest prices in SF are much cheaper than the German ones (although the highest are much higher - weird).
I only would have had to miss one rehearsal, although the last one next week is really awkward, too. Ah well.
Maybe I'll get a cheap ticket, and maybe my friend here, who reminded me some days ago, will come with me.
It would be so much more an incentive to go, if there was a moot combined with it, though.
