Huh, you are right. Must have been a limited time deal when I got it.

Well, at least you can search through your free Kindle version of the Sil to find the quote! ;)

No, long before that.

Edit to add: It is, at least to me, one of the most poignant moments in the book.

Bringing the quote here:

Recalling the sympathy of some of the high speed shaft of a feather of the King of all birds, people love!

Nope, though that is a good guess. Later than that in the story. And remember that I said that the person being spoken to was not present even though re responded. Man we was in Valinor at the time this took place. The speaker was not.

So, hang on:

Manwë was in Valinor when your quote was spoken. Was not physically present when the speaker spoke, but he did respond to the speaker.

So your quote was not spoken in Valinor.

Was it spoken by Tuor?

Also, were you present when it was spoken?

No and no. Much earlier. But it was spoken by someone who eventually would be related to Tuor by marriage.

That's it. Manwë responded, of course, by sending Thorondor so that Fingon could rescue Maedhros from his imprisonment upon Thangorodrim rather than killing him to put him out of his misery.

New quote:

Quote:
I thought birds and beasts. Was a call or signal-could not understand the words they were screaming.

Probably. I remember most of it. "There were words in it" always gave me chills. Need to get the books, though.

Eta: it was easier than I thought. It's Frodo.

It was not bird or beast. It was a call, or a signal - there were words in that cry, though I could not catch them.
