Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
What I would do is say, "yes it is from The Silmarillion." In Tolkien scholarship, the common practice is to distinguish between "the Silmarillion" which could refer to any of the body work that comprises the first age tales, and The Silmarillion which specifically refers to the published book. If you wanted to give more of a hint, you could say yes, but it is not in the Quenta Silmarillion, which would narrow it down the other four shorter works in the published book.
But that's just my opinion!

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
From a mere published Tolkien scholar. I would take it.
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

A further hint: Aragorn wasn't present when this quote was spoken, but the quote does show him being wrong about something.Do it-do you all have?
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
What was he wrong about?

One of the guesses he made when piecing together what happened to Merry and Pippin.
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
I think you have enough clues to know which section to search, but if you need any more hints, just ask...
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
I'm lost. I figured that the thing Aragorn was wrong about was the hobbits being carried away by Orcs through Fangorn to Saruman?

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
He made a number of guesses about what happened; by this time he had already guessed that at least one of them, and perhaps both, had escaped.
But remember that the actual quote is spoken much before we see Aragorn making his guesses.

A guess:
"I don't need the help of your legs to get you away - and have you all to myself!"
