I watched 'Endgame' on the strength of comments here, without seeing any of the others except the first 'Iron Man' and 'Dr. Strange,' and was able to follow, except for not knowing who the red-haired woman in the battle was who said, (para) 'You took everything from me.'

Wow. I'm surprised that moment was the only thing you felt you missed. What did you think of it?

For whatever reason, I tend to find superhero movies kind of tiresome. It's possible I judge them on the basis of what they aren't supposed to be and thus find them lacking (the way I think reviewers sometimes do with other movie genres that I'm able to accept on their terms). I fought through some drowsiness during the Thor at New Asgard segment, enjoyed the funny moments throughout and the final battle scene, but it didn't stay with me at all. I found 'Dr. Strange' to be a more interesting movie.

That makes sense. It's definitely not something that I would recommend to anyone who hasn't been interested in this series in general.

Cerin, did you see Infinity War 1? If not, I'm impressed you made any sense of Endgame at all.

Yov, as happy as I am to see a Black Widow movie, I am disappointed that it's a prequel. And if it has to be a prequel, I'm disappointed that it doesn't seem to cover the comic book history between the Black Widow and the Winter Soldier.

Yeah, but you're always disappointed when the movie doesn't focus on Bucky. :P

The dumbest thing I've ever bought
was a 2020 planner.

"Does anyone ever think about Denethor, the guy driven to madness by staying up late into the night alone in the dark staring at a flickering device he believed revealed unvarnished truth about the outside word, but which in fact showed mostly manipulated media created by a hostile power committed to portraying nothing but bad news framed in the worst possible way in order to sap hope, courage, and the will to go on? Seems like he's someone we should think about." - Dave_LF

Black Panther’ star Chadwick Boseman dies of cancer at 43: https://www.abc27.com/news/entertainmen ... LES%20(AP)

I had no idea he was ill! He was diagnosed with the cancer in 2016, 2 years before he did Black Panther!   Damn, he was SO young!

"A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much," his family said in the statement.

"From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and several more — all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honour of his career to bring King T'Challa to life in Black Panther."

Horrible, stunning news. I had no idea that he was ill until my Facebook feed started being inundated with posts memorializing him.

He was so clearly a good man, and his movies were so important to the Black community.

Fuck cancer.

I will see if Black Panther is available on Netflix, and if it is, I will watch it tonight in his memory.
Rest in power, brother! You fought the good fight.

Edit: Black Panther wasn't available on Netflix last night, but I just saw this announcement on FB: Black Panther will be on ABC tonight, commercial free, with a special on Chadwick Bozeman afterwards.

Still trying to process that he's gone... I did try to watch one of his movies last night, but the subject matter was too dark (Message From the King). The half hour I did manage to get through showed he was certainly an excellent actor! Yeah, we knew that already...but it was the first time I'd seen him in a role other than B.P.

Wandavision: it's the kind of show that's built around a big "what's going on!?" mystery at the center and I find whether or not those kinds of stories ultimately work will really depend on whether the mystery gets resolved in a satisfying fashion, but for now - OMG I'm enjoying this show so much !! Ugh, I will have to get Disney+ after all. I was hoping to hold out until The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is out.
