Just for Canada's 150th birthday, people were asked to pick their favourties.
Hallelujah made the list twice. I am rather surprised they picked the Leonard Cohen version as their #1 hit. Maybe they felt they couldn't do otherwise, as he wrote the song. But his version is raw and unvarnished, and lacks the beautiful harmonies of some of the other covers. Too bad he didn't live long enough to see this.
There's a number of these songs I'm not familiar with, so I'll have to give them a listen. I'm also a bit surprised that Ian and Sylvia's "Four Strong Winds" missed the list.

Top 10 Canadian Songs
When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes The Rose.
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes The Rose.

"Take off" by Bob and Doug McKenzie and featuring Geddy Lee must surely be included.

Does this count as a Canadian song??
The dumbest thing I've ever bought
was a 2020 planner.
"Does anyone ever think about Denethor, the guy driven to madness by staying up late into the night alone in the dark staring at a flickering device he believed revealed unvarnished truth about the outside word, but which in fact showed mostly manipulated media created by a hostile power committed to portraying nothing but bad news framed in the worst possible way in order to sap hope, courage, and the will to go on? Seems like he's someone we should think about." - Dave_LF

That's the great Kate and Anna McGarrigle!
Here's another early McGarrigle classic - it was later popularized by Linda Ronstadt:
(Does a song by two Montreal girls count as a Canadian song if it talks about places in the U.S.?)

elingil, love the way the NFB film logo is scratching itself at the start of The Blackfly Song! Someone at the NFB obviously had a sense of humour!
I used to canoe a lot, and have been in situations where you really needed to wear a head net, plus long sleeves and pant clips to protect yourself from the bloodthirsty little buggers!
