India on PBS

Post by Inanna »

PBS / Channel Thirteen is airing 6 hours of a show on India. The first two hours were this last Monday 9:00pm to 11:00pm. The next two hours are on 12th Jan, and the next two on 19th Jan.

The entire series is made in one-hour mini shows. With each hour as one theme. I missed the first hour (driving to NY from Penn State) this last Monday, but caught the second one. The second one was titled "Birth of an Idea" (or something similar) and traced the creation of Buddhism and Jainism in India. It told me things I wasn't aware of.

Really well made. Worth a watch.

That sounds interesting Mahima.

I recently re-read "The Essential Gandhi", which was something from Freshman year. I was going through my college stuff, and started picking up things I hadn't seen in a while.

A friend of mine does some music which has lyrics that are influenced by her trips to India, including the Himalayas, where she lived in a small village for a while.

I would have to check Channel 12 in Philadelphia to see if it has the same thing.

If I had a TV, I would definitely check this out. But ... . ;)

I haven't read the "Essential Gandhi"... should look it up. But if you would like to delve into this area, Brian, read "My experiments with Truth" by Gandhi. He reached new heights for me after I read it.

V, if you want to, you can watch bits of it on pbs.org.

Thanks, Mahima! I'll do that.

A guy at work told me about this and he sang its praises. I am going to try and catch thie first episode on a rerun and watch the rest of it.
He made it sounde like it was quite excellent. Then again it is on PBS so it is no surprise to me.
