Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony
For those interested here is a link with both girls pictures on it. The one on right is the 'chubby' one. The one on the left is the more politcally correct one. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26153578
I find it sad that the one girl will forever be known as the chubby girl too ugly to be on TV and the other girl will be forever known as a fraud. And as a parent I'd be plenty mad if it were my daughter.

I'm going to split off everything political and everything not about the Olympics into a Lasto thread called something like "The politics of sports." I'll be back with a link in a few minutes.
Then this thread can go back to being about the fun or at least lighter aspects of the Games.
Edit: Okay, here's the link to the Lasto thread:

As usual, please let me know if I missed anything, or moved anything I shouldn't have, and I'll move it back.

“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

Uh I just wanted to say the I knew the footprint fireworks were not "real". It was said in the commentary on the CBC. Also it was obvious the little girl was lip synching. I just didn't know she was lip synching to a different voice. To be frank, no television producer for an opening ceremony of anything being broadcast worldwide would put in a child with crooked teeth. It just ain't gonna happen.

They did set the bar rather high. Perhaps London would be wise to go local/funky. A cross between a village fete and a Renfair? Skip the reenactment of the Battle of the Nile. . . .
