I wonder how often it happens that a famous person earns an actual academic doctorate? That's great!
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

I've actually known two guys who played in rock bands with huge domestic success, and later got academic degrees; one a Ph.D. in biochemistry, the other a M.Sc. in zoology.
So, it does happen, just maybe not so often to world class stars.

See the world as your self.
Have faith in the way things are.
Love the world as your self;
then you can care for all things.

Brian's the ultimate Geek Rock God. His Dad made the "Red Special" for him that he still plays to this day, though I suspect that the knitting needle tremelo arm has been replaced.
Incidentally, Brian always used old thrupenny bits as plectrums, and over the years they got more and more scarce, so he contacted the royal mint to see if they could run off a batch as a special order for him. They said they could, but it would cost a fortune and he'd end up with millions of them as it wouldn't be worth the setup time for less.
As a result, at the last Queen and Paul Rogers tour, they were selling Souvenir Queen branded coins of a suspiciously familiar size.
