The Rolling Stones - 3 Favourite Songs

Post by yovargas »

I've been listening to the Stones a whole lot recently, ever since I discovered that Exile on Main Street is a freaggin' fantastic album. So I thought, hell, if The Beatles can get a 3 Favourite Songs thread, The Stones surely deserve one too since IMnotsohumbleO, The Rolling Stones made music that was on average approximately 8 billion times more powerful than The Beatles typical stuff. ( ) So with no further ado, my 3 fav Stones songs (atm):

Shine a Light
Sweet Virginia (both off Exile)
You Can't Always Get What You Want

Your turn!
I wanna love somebody but I don't know how
I wanna throw my body in the river and drown
-The Decemberists

1)"It's only rock n roll"
2)"Jumpin' jack flash"
3)"Sympothy for the devil"

The first two choices came easy to me but I had to think a bit on the third one.
still trying to get it right

Not really a huge Stones fan, but if I had to pick:

Paint it Black
Satisfaction
Little Red Rooster

Honky Tonk Woman
B*tch
Love in Vain (especially the Get Yer Ya Yas Out version)

Any list that does not let me include Satisfation or Sympathy for the Devil or Wild Horses or Dead Flowers or Paint It Black or is waaaaay too short. :P

Sticky Fingers, The 2 Hot Rocks albums, Get Yer Ya Yas Out , Let It Bleed and Some Girls are the best albums imo.

A lot of their album releases are weird though.
Many of them have 3 new songs and have older songs thrown on them.

Paint it Black
Mother's Little Helper
Honky Tonk Woman

The Stones are to me a cautionary tale, since they've been sliding as songwriters since 1970, maybe earlier. As live performers they're still decent.

As I try to get more familiar with them and their albums, I'm probably going to pretend that they all died of overdose right after releasing Exile.

:D

And even there half the tracks came from earlier sessions and were only overdubbed for release.

Can't do three songs. Three albums?

Let It Bleed
Beggar's Banquet
Exile on Main St

After that, Some Girls, Sticky Fingers, Aftermath. Some Girls (30 years ago!) was the last decent one they ever cut.
