One of my favourite records of the 80's was the travelling wilburys vol 1. It was bought for me by an in-law, sort of thing I would never have bought myself. Not bee nreleased on cde until recently, now availalbe as part of a "set", with vol 1 - vol 3 and a DVD.
some fanatastic songs, and the voice of Roy Orbison on what must have been one of his last recordings.
for those not in the know the Wilburys were an ad hoc beat combo featuring Geo. Harrison, Roy Orbison, Robert Zimmerman, Tom Petty and Jeff Wayne.

That would have been fun too.
TW vol I was Orbison's next-to-last recording. He did one last solo album (not released till after his death) a mix of his own songs, covers, and songs written for him, 1988's Mystery Girl. Great album, with an impressive list of session men and producers--see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mystery_Girl for particulars.
