Seeing how condensed the movie Eragon was, it doesn't surprise me in the least that hearing that book is better.

Aren't books nearly always better than the movie? The once exception that I can think of is The Natural. It's been a long time so I don't recall a lot of details, but I recall the book ending being very unpleasant. The movie starring Robert Redford and Glenn Close was much better.
