The Kindle Books and Resources List
Re: The Kindle Books and Resources List
I was sure there'd be a Fifty Shades of Grey joke in there somewhere!

Jude! Where do you find these things?
Alatar, have you read that book? I was going to say something scathing about it, but the truth is, I haven't read it so all my inner vitriol is based on hearsay.

Nope, I'm the same as you Impy. Anyone who has read it tells me its very badly written, but it obviously struck a chord, given its popularity. Much like the DaVinci Code. Sometimes entertainment doesn't have to be art...

Re: The Kindle Books and Resources List
Available today in the U.S. for $1.99: Merriam-Webster's 11th Collegiate Dictionary! This is the publishing-industry standard for most houses for spelling, hyphenation, word breaks, etc., and so I would recommend it to any writer or editor. I don't know how convenient it will be to use on a plain Kindle like mine, but having it available all the time in some form could be useful.
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

Oh, poop! Serves me right for not checking HoF all weekend. It's $13.58 now. Which is still a good bargain.

A number of Discworld books are 99c today on Amazon. Go to Kindle store and search for Discworld.

Some pretty popular books are 1.99 right now, including The Martian, The Outlander, Game of Thrones, and more. The linkis from Kinja and probably has their affiliate code, but I couldn't find a simple way to get to the collection.

But only on one book. I'm stuck in indecision.

This isn't a Kindle recommendation - it's a link to a free download of "Microsoft Word for Publishing Professionals" by Jack Lyons. Some macro and wildcard ideas for automating tedious editing and proofreading tasks.

Re: The Kindle Books and Resources List
Lots of Kindle books on sale now, including .99 for the Color of Magic, the first in Pratchett's Discworld series, and 1.99 for Lukyanenko's Night Watch, one of the best urban fantasy stories I've read.
