Re: Reaction to seeing 5 ARMIES EE

Yeah, but they could have removed the gore with little problem and left the scene largely intact. It really makes things make so much more sense (besides being an exciting and thrilling sequence). Very true Voronwë. They could have removed the gory part. But where did that chariot with 6 rams came ...

Re: Reaction to seeing 5 ARMIES EE

Thank you for your review, Necromancer. V, what are your overall thoughts on the extended edition? Does it visibly improve the film? If so, where in particular? How does it compare to the other extended Hobbit films? (mind you, I have not seen any of the extended Hobbit cuts). I believe that you ca...

Re: Reaction to seeing 5 ARMIES EE

I finally did too. It is enduring mystery why the chariot scene was not included in the theatrical release. It is literally the quintessential Peter Jackson scene. It was very gory and bloody, that is the only reason i guess. There are especially 2 scenes during the chariot that got me by surprise ...

Re: Reaction to seeing 5 ARMIES EE

I am not sure it would detract from the acorn scene between Bilbo and Thorin Voronwë. Undoubtedly, it was in Bilbo's mind to plant it in his garden back to Shire. But until then, Bilbo had not faced the brutality and gruesomeness of the war which definitely affected the people from Laketown who were...

Re: Reaction to seeing 5 ARMIES EE

I finally managed to watch the Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition.,To be honest, i already liked the Theatrical Edition but it was more obvious than never that a really heavy editing had affected the flow and the unfolding of the events, especially during the second half of the film. Fortuna...

Re: The Hobbit: TBotFA EE Anticipation thread

I recently made a list of what i would like from this Extended Edition from most important to less important scenes. Here it is: 1)The Funeral-Fate of Arkenstone and Orcrist 2)An extended, tighter and more cohesive editing of the main battle before Ravenhill 3)A more active role of Beorn and the Ea...

Re: The Hobbit: TBotFA EE Anticipation thread

I think we can expect a considerably longer and more coherent battle. Even the shot of Legolas and the bat suggests that that scene will be more coherent. A more coherent battle is one of my main expectations Voronwë. I recently made a list of what i would like from this Extended Edition from most ...

Re: The Hobbit: TBotFA EE Anticipation thread

Yay!! Battle rams in action! Apparently, Dain's introduction seems to be quite different here than in the Theatrical Edition which undoubtedly cheers me up a lot.

There is also a quick shot of probably Gundabad Orcs which are raising their spears anticipating an attack...Eagles and Beorn i presume?

2)The Shores of the Long Lake with an exceptional variation of Feast of Starlight theme plus the great new theme that is heard when the Laketowners accept Bard as a leader If I may hijack your post a little, that isn't strictly a new theme. It can be called something like "Girion's heirs"...

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies fan reviews... SP

I just finished a screening of the film and i can say with certainty, since this is my fifth viewing of the film, that BOTFA is not only the best Hobbit film but rivals and is actually better than ROTK theatrical edition in many ways even with the missing parts(that are presumably in the EE). The cha...

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies fan reviews... SP

I liked Tauriel/Bolg and Bolg/Kili confrontations, very much to be honest. I felt really sorry for both. It did not prevent me from eye-watering. But what happened afterwards, affected my reaction towards Thorin's death, undoubtedly.

In my opinion, the overproduced parts affected Thorin's death, not Kili's. Kili's assassination was very poignant and happened before the over the top parts if i recall correctly.

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies fan reviews... SP

I am going for a second viewing soon, probably on Sunday. Now that i am fresh after a good night sleep, i can safely state that the 2/3's of the film- with the exception of the distracting Alfrid- and the ending are probably pieces of Jackson's most mature work.Everything worked out so fine. Some of ...

Re: BotFA professional reviews

Not very often. It happened in the case of Interstellar though. The thing is that even critics have high expectations from directors like Nolan or Jackson etc. and their reviews are often based on more strict criteria especially when two critically accalimed trilogies preceded. They will never revie...
