I'm debating with myself whether it's worthwhile getting it [the CD-Cruc] It is. Galadriel's songs, in particular, are absolutely fantastic, and the Hobbit's song, while certainly not as emotionally effective as the live version, still brings tears to my eyes. Thanks, Crucifer, that sounds good! :)...

First, did you know there was three soundproof rooms backstage? The full orchestra aren't in the pit. The percussion section is in a soundproofed room, as is the Brass section, and there's another room for the offstage vocalists, all cue'd by live camera to the conductor. Everything you hear is pla...

That's Teh Awesome, Alatar!11 :D What other sort of backstage things did you see? (Or are you sworn to secrecy? ;) ) (I've just gone through the past pages of this thread, to see if you'd talked about it before, and saw the post with the pics - very nice! :) But there's no report to go with them. :p...

Ooooh, if there were a DVD of the London performance I'd get it straight away! :D There's a CD with the songs, but the hobbits' song from it (it's on You Tube) IMO lacks the life it had in the live-performenace. So, I'm debating with myself whether it's worthwhile getting it, as I have the memory of...

I want to know how the Vinyamars got that foto in Alatar's sig!  I've seen the musical in London twice and I LOVED it!. And I'm somewhat of a Purist. Well, maybe mostly a Pragmatist. But certainly nowhere near a Revisionist! I wanna see it again! :bawling: *sighs for its run in London ...

Lee is my favourite of the three just because of his subdued colours. I like Nasmith's Lúthien a lot, but that's because it's so untypically monochrome. Mostly, his colours are just too intense for my taste. And yikes about getting the plants so wrong (you'd think 'hemlock umbels' would give one a c...

Julia Liazgina, definitely a she. Ah, thanks! :D (I thought 'Julii' would be from 'Julia', but the rest of the name I couldn't trace back to its original form, and there might be a male 'Julius' or so, too.) She also has Ring of Felagund , although I think it should read Ring of Barahir, shouldn't ...

That would have been one of my questions. :D Thanks, Frelga! :D I'm not even too sure about all the letters anymore, but if they make a name, I can usually read it. But if it's other words, chances are I'm lost. (And I don't know the Sil well enough to recognise the scenes. ) I guess 'poshden...

Googling for something to use on MoME, I just found this Russian artist. The illustrations seem in the tradition of classical Russian illustration art (they reminded me of Bilibin's style). I liked quite a few of them. http://Eressëa.ru/library/gallery/lyazgina/lyazgina.shtml#03 They aren't all Tolk...

I'm trying to imagine fitting two houses where the one is now. Don't envy those later dwellers. Actually, my first thought on reading the first post was, 'makes sense, there's ample room for two houses'. It's regrettable that a house Tolkien lived in should disappear, but this one is particularly u...

Before I reply to any of the individual posts, I'd like to say some more about the general idea of this thread, as there seems to be some lack of clarity about it. What is this subject ? Is it spanking, or is it abuse of children? That's probably the wrong question. Many people maintain that spankin...

The idea that I could not have opinions on the matter is as offensive to me as the discussion itself may be to others. Brian, I feel exactly that way, too! Mith, right back at you, thanks. :) It seems, your mother was just overburdened with 3 small children, plus suffering from depressi...

Thanks for the comments, all! :) Alater, I found it interesting that the humiliation aspect didn't seem to be felt when you got to choose being hit at school. And I was very surprised to hear that corporeal punishment was still legal in schools in Ireland when you were a kid. It had always seemed no...

I'm not going to post, but it's not because I'm defensive. It's because this really IS a topic more sensitive than racism or religion or whatever. Whether they suck as parents or are exemplary, there is no quicker way to alienate a parent in the process of raising a child than to offer advice unask...

Ax, I'm afraid I don't understand why this topic should be taboo. I think it is a good thing take a look at childrearing methods. If the topic makes you defensive, don't post. What would you say if we couldn't discuss racism, for example, because it touches some people closely? I have to admit that ...
