Re: Gun Control Debate

My brother-in-law drives an armored truck, and carries a gun. That makes sense to me. Mr. S goes out to dinner at a nice Mexican place, and we have to arrange the seating around his... well, paranoia. Hence the sarcasm. If it is indeed that bad than it couldn't be called anything else but paranoia....

Re: Gun Control Debate

Mr. S had to sit at the end of the table (so he can move quickly if the situation called for it, apparently... thankfully dinner didn't warrant a split-second armed response for anything, although the salsa REALLY wasn't very good... bad salsa perhaps doesn't deserve a full firepower response, mayb...

Re: Gun Control Debate

Re the birthday dinner dilemma: I am happy to report that purely by the gift of serendipity, my Mr. Anth was seated nowhere near either S or her gun-happy better half, Mr. S! Mr. S had to sit at the end of the table (so he can move quickly if the situation called for it, apparently... thankfully din...

Re: Gun Control Debate

Jeez. :suspicious: I set up a perfectly good anxiety-driven pre-event-worry-fest about something that may or may not even be discussed, imply marital discord and foreshadow the end of a 10 year friendship, throw in a bit of anti-gun rhetoric and safe room imagery (stopping all that high-powered ammu...

Re: One way or another, this darkness got to give

A statement by Pres. Obama today: President Obama on Sunday condemned the shooting in Baton Rouge that left three police officers dead and three more injured. "For the second time in two weeks, police officers who put their lives on the line for ours every day were doing their job when they wer...

Re: Gun Control Debate

Why are you going to this 'party'? Really. It sounds cultish. It's my (honestly kind of previously) best friend, and the two "friends" she feels closest to (me and S) and their husbands, for her 42nd birthday. She travels a lot, is in town for one day, and it happens to be her birthday, s...

Re: Winter is Coming: A Game of Thrones (SPOILERS)

Well, Sansa could have had Ramsey hanged.... even though she wouldn't have wielded the "sword", she would have given the order. That is a bit less personal and macabre than the hounds thing. Not that he didn't deserve it, btw. But I worry about what his influence has done to her. And Arya ...

Re: Gun Control Debate

Is there a reason to expect guns and gun control to come up at a birthday party?? Well, guns shouldn't come up at a birthday party, of course. But in this crowd, it will. I've never been around S's husband without the subject coming up. It is sure to this time because K wants us to talk to S's husb...

Re: Gun Control Debate

So I have to go to dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. This shouldn't be a burden, I wouldn't think, nor would it be applicable in a gun control thread, except I see potential problems involved with this. My friend K has long been against guns. Her dad is a big gun enthusiast (and huge conserva...

Re: Brexit Carried - Cameron Resigns

[quote="Pearly Di"]I freely admit that I am in something of a Remain bubble. Many of my friends, both RL and 'imaginary', including quite a few church friends, voted Remain. Yes, the Brexit vote was a big populist rebellion against the political elite. Yes, it has exposed a huge faultline ...

Re: Winter is Coming: A Game of Thrones (SPOILERS)

The battle of bastards.... Need I say more? Sansa was my favourite character before she was cool! I liked Sansa better before the last few episodes. While she has gotten stronger, her soul has changed... when Ramsey says "I'm a part of you now", he's right. What she did to him was far mor...

Re: Brexit Carried - Cameron Resigns

Do you feel that Brexit, or perhaps the reason Brexit passed, is perceived differently across the pond? Jim Hightower voices roughly what I thought was going on... a working class revolt against the fat cats, with an added bit of xenophobia (which I notice he does not address). I did feel, when I r...

Re: Brexit Carried - Cameron Resigns

Hi, all! * Anthy!!!!! :) Hey, darlin'! :sunny: Again, in my toe-in-the-cauldron kind of outsider-who-knows nothing way, I wondered this exact same thing. From what I have read, the EU may seem to many people as an important symbol of European unity, rather than a favorable political construc...
